How is the procedure done?
The surgery can be done within two hours using local anesthesia and is performed on an outpatient basis. First, Dr. Cooksey makes several tiny incisions that follow the natural lines and creases of the eyelid; then, he removes excess fat, skin and muscle from the incision sites to achieve an aesthetically pleasing shape to the lid. The incisions are sutured leaving tiny, hairline scars that begin to fade within a few days and will eventually be almost invisible. No incisions are required to treat “bags” beneath the eyes.
Is the procedure painful?
A local anesthesia is commonly used during the procedure, and you will not feel any pain. Following surgery, you’ll be in a recovery area for one to two hours. Ice compresses are used to reduce swelling and bruising. As you recover, some bruising and swelling is expected. Quick improvement is common and following Dr. Cooksey’s instructions will ensure the most rapid recovery possible.
