Frequently Asked Questions

How does the procedure work?
The Sciton Erbium Profile Laser can selectively target the hair follicle, and it employs a unique computer guided scanning system that automates the treatment. The computer ensures that the skin is rapidly and evenly treated.

Is the procedure painful?
A system for cooling your skin will be used to remove heat as it leaves the follicles and should ensure a comfortable treatment, but a topical anesthesia can be used if your skin is particularly sensitive or if a sensitive area of the body is being treated.

Is there a recovery period?

Some redness and slight swelling may be present immediately after the treatment, but this should subside within a few hours.

How often does the procedure have to be repeated?
Human hair has three stages of growth—anagen, catagen and telogen. The anagen stage is the stage of active hair growth; the laser will affect only hair in this stage of active growth. Because of this, the procedure must be repeated from 3 to 5 times at intervals of 3 to 8 weeks, enabling all follicles to be treated during the active growth phase of their cycle.

Can in-grown hair be treated?
Because the energy from the Sciton Erbium Profile Laser passes through the skin to reach the hair follicle, in-grown hairs or hairs that have been shaved can be successfully treated.
