LASIK
- Laser in situ keratomileusis, or LASIK, is a laser surgery used to treat myopia
(nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and
astigmatism. It is the most popular type of laser vision
correction performed in the U.S. The cornea
is reshaped to improve the focus of light rays onto the
retina. An instrument called a microkeratome is used to
make a thin flap in the cornea and the excimer laser is used
to reshape the eye. The procedure is performed in our
clinic and under topical (eye-drops) anesthesia. Most
patients are able to drive the next day.
The purpose of LASIK is to attempt to decrease your dependence on glasses and/or
contact lenses. A LASIK exam includes a comprehensive eye
exam, discussion of risks and benefits, and several
measurements which will help determine one’s candidacy for
the surgery. Like any other surgery and even contact
lenses, LASIK has potential risks and side effects.
We are pleased to offer CustomVue LASIK which uses the latest wavefront technology to improve the likelihood for a successful outcome. We use the Visx S4 laser which is the most preferred excimer laser in the United States.
